JAXPORT partners perform 300-ton heavy lift operation
JAXPORT and its partners unloaded two unusually large pieces of equipment weighing a combined 300 tons from a ship onto a specially designed truck this morning at the Talleyrand Marine Terminal. The cargo originated in Sweden and arrived in Jacksonville following more than 17 days at sea.The movement of the 138-ton power plant generator and 120-ton turbine was accomplished by JAXPORT’s Seaonus Stevedoring and Spliethoff Worldwide Ocean Transport. The two massive pieces of cargo were accompanied by 23 smaller pieces and the off-loading operation took more than four hours.
McTyre Trucking will transport each piece separately on a unique 36-axle, 300-foot trailer—-one of only six of its kind in the nation—-specifically designed to handle such heavy lift cargo. The components are headed to Gainesville Renewable Energy, a bio-mass energy facility in Gainesville, Florida.
