Kargosistem solves capacity problem
Regular shortages of first sector air cargo capacity from Istanbul should be a thing of the past for leading Turkish GSSA Kargosistem, following an increase in the freighter capacity of its major client airline DHL, and Kargosistem's own commitment to additional main deck space for the next year on three-times-weekly freighters to London Heathrow.
The London freighter services will provide Kargosistem with additional options to connect to the networks of its online and offline carrier clients including Kenya Airways, Air Transat, DHL and Avient.
Kargosistem also has the option to take space on services to Liege, and is looking at additional capacity on a second freighter operator. Liege flights would also link to Kargosistem's client carrier networks, using road feeders.
Such a commitment to space on the part of a cargo GSSA is highly unusual; nor is this a low-cost solution to the problem. However, the new freighter capacity solves a long-standing shortage of first sector space out of Istanbul, which has seen Kargosistem turning away valuable business over the past twelve months.
Explains Kargosistem MD Demir Ozerman: "This commitment to additional capacity will at least partially fill the gap between limited supply and our constantly growing demand; this will enable us to offer a more consistent service for our freight agent customers, and bring additional revenue to our carrier principals.
"We will keep our selling rates competitive in the market by absorbing much of the additional cost ourselves. Overall, this is good news for the market here: we are delivering additional options for moving cargo and so offering our customers wider choice."
