Sol Shipping Services begins 5-year marine terminal lease at Port Everglades
Sol Shipping Services, Inc., a prominent produce importer, especially of melons from Central America, has entered a new five-year agreement to operate a five-acre marine terminal at Port Everglades. Sol has operated seasonally at Port Everglades since the 1990s through another terminal, and the new agreement gives the locally headquartered company a permanent on-port leasehold.
“This new agreement strengthens our relationship with Sol, so they can continue to expand and grow their business right here in Broward County,” said Port Everglades Chief Executive & Port Director Steven Cernak.
Sol is a Florida corporation based in Pompano Beach, where they own and operate refrigerated warehouse facilities totaling 140,000 square feet on 15 acres of land. Sol and related organizations employ 150 people in Broward County. Sol's projected annual economic impact, based on the company’s average activity levels, is $651 million in economic activity while supporting 7,476 jobs statewide, with personal income of $236 million plus state and local taxes of $21.7 million.
“Port Everglades has played a very important role in the history and development of Sol. This deal allows us to plan the continued development of the business in the knowledge that we have secured our position on the Port. We would like to thank Steven Cernak and all the staff of the Port for their support in securing this agreement,” said Enda Walsh, President of Sol Shipping Services, Inc.
