Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC), in coordination with Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC), has unveiled a new logistics port facility located on Sir Bani Yas Island in the Western Region. An opening ceremony was held on site this week in the presence of Tony Douglas, Chief Executive Officer at ADPC, Captain Mohamed Al Shamisi, Vice President of the Ports Unit at ADPC, and Jim Pringle, Acting Chief Executive Officer, TDIC along with Western Region Municipality General Manager, Musabah Mubarak Al Marar and seniors from the Department of Transport.

ADPC has been working alongside TDIC in order to develop the new port on the western side of Sir Bani Yas Island. It provides state–of-the-art port facilities on the island. Now, logistics between Sir Bani Yas and the mainland ports of Jebel Dhanna and Mugharrag Port have been strengthened. Goods and services transported between the island and the mainland will benefit from the new, modern facilities and easier access.

The conception to completion of the new Sir Bani Yas Port took two years and was supported by the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, ensuring that the facility will sufficiently support the ongoing tourism projects being developed on the island.

The Sir Bani Yas Logistics Port is now fully operational with three roll-on roll-off ramps, a boat pontoon and a control office. It will be able to handle all TDIC construction materials and workers in a faster, safer and more efficient manner. It will also provide back-of-house operational support, thus ensuring the tourism continuity of the island.

Commenting on the development, Captain Mohamed Al Shamisi, said: “ADPC is proud to play a part in the development of ports in the Western Region, which form an important part of our remit and are vital to the communities they serve. This new facility will help streamline business, contributing to the region’s economic and tourism development. We will continue with our ongoing commitment to provide excellent services in all the ports we look after.”

James Pringle, Acting CEO of TDIC commented: “The Sir Bani Yas Port is an important addition to the island. This dedicated construction and back-of-house operations hub will help to enable the smooth running of the transportation of goods between the island and the mainland, which in turn will assist us to continue to develop Sir Bani Yas Island into one of the emirate’s leading tourism destinations.”

Western Region Municipality General Manager Musabah Mubarak Al Marar said: “I would like to extend our appreciation to the leadership of our government which is constantly supporting the development of the Western Region especially his Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and his Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, and his Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Western Region.

Sir Bani Yas Island is considered as one of the largest open natural reserves which the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan first laid its grounds and which Abu Dhabi’s leadership is continuing in his footsteps of developing it into one of the Emirate’s top touristic destinations. The new logistics port at Sir Bani Yas will efficiently contribute to the development and completion of the touristic projects at Sir Bani Yas Island.”

The Sir Bani Yas Port has been constructed in such a way that it can be easily modified and expanded in the future to meet any additional requirements by TDIC.
