The movement, from the manufacturer in Tulsa, Oklahoma to its destination at Balkanabat, Turkmenistan included a crossing of the Atlantic Ocean, as well as the Black and Caspian Seas, as well as three connecting overland journeys.
The cement-making machine will be used in the construction of the Caspian Sea gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan. The journey started by road from Tulsa, Oklahoma using a special low-bed trailer under police escort to the port of Houston where it was loaded on BBC Italy for a direct sailing from the United States to Poti, Georgia on the Black Sea.
On arrival in Poti, cargo was transferred from BBC Italy to a low-bed trailer. The Advance convoy, including the cargo superintendent, crossed the Georgian mountains under police escort and experienced very tight clearances at road tunnels and overhead bridges as the over dimensional shipment was 5.72m wide and 4.12m high. It traveled through Tiblisi and crossed the border into Azerbaijan, before traveling to the port of Baku on the Caspian Sea.
At Baku, the convoy took the ro/ro ferry crossing to Turkmenbashi and, from there, traveled the final 210 km to its destination at the Petro Gas Turkmenistan terminal at Balkanabat, Turkmenistan for successful delivery.
Mr. Kamel says: 'Because the consignment traveled with an experienced cargo superintendent, able to supervise the entire supply chain from consignor to consignee, we were able to ensure that all transit, Customs documentation, permits and formalities were complied with and no delays were caused by paperwork problems.'
