Instacart, the fast-growing grocery delivery service whose Personal Shoppers hand pick and deliver items from trusted local stores, announced today that after a successful pilot in Boston and San Francisco, Petco is expanding its partnership with Instacart. Beginning today, customers in 14 metro areas served by Instacart can order from Petco stores and have everything delivered in as little as one hour. New York City will not be included in today’s launch, but will follow this summer. “Based on successful Instacart delivery pilots in Boston and San Francisco, we’re pleased to expand our offering,” said Brad Weston, executive vice president and chief merchandising officer at Petco. “Customer feedback has been positive and we see same-day delivery in these 14 cities as a key component of Petco’s consumer-focused omnichannel offering.” Instacart currently serves 15 metro areas: Atlanta, Austin, Boulder, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, Portland (OR), San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle and Washington, DC. The company plans to add several more cities before the end of 2015. “We are thrilled that Petco has been so well received by Instacart customers, and look forward to making the service available to customers throughout all of our markets,” said Apoorva Mehta, founder and CEO of Instacart. “Our model is designed not only to make customers happy but also to help all types of retailers be able to offer the convenience of delivery without the logistical hassles or capital expenditures. We’re excited to serve this need for Petco and make being a pet parent easier and more convenient for customers from LA to Atlanta with Petco delivery.” Originally launched in San Francisco and since expanded into many other cities, Instacart has disrupted the traditional grocery delivery space by connecting customers with Personal Shoppers, independent contractors who shop for and deliver grocery orders providing their own transportation in as little as one hour. This eliminates the need for costly infrastructure such as inventory, warehouses, trucks and full-time drivers. Customers can open an account at www.Instacart.com, and get free delivery on their first order of $10 or more. Instacart also offers Instacart Express—an annual membership that eliminates delivery fees for all orders of $35 or more. The cost is just $99 per year. Customers can sign up for a free two-week trial at www.instacart.com/express.
