Charles Menkhorst to lead Africa, Middle East and India Region

APM Terminals announces the appointment of Charles Menkhorst as the new Regional Vice President – Africa, Middle East and India (AMI) succeeding Jorgen H. Madsen, Regional Vice President who will retire at the end of 2009. 

Menkhorst started his career with Federal Express in 1991 and shortly after moved to DHL where he held several senior positions in Europe, USA and the Asia Pacific Region. “I have been impressed with the transformation of A.P. Moller-Maersk’s port division into a solid multi-customer business over the past few years, and I look forward to my new role leading the company in this dynamic region”, commented Charles Menkhorst.

At the same time I would also like to recognize and thank Jorgen H. Madsen - whose strategic contributions and executive leadership has enabled our company to significantly expand in the region.”

APM Terminals recently opened a new office in Dubai as the new regional headquarters, relocating it from Muscat, Oman. The AMI region represents an important part of the Global Terminal Network. It has witnessed rapid growth over the last few years and now covers 12 container terminals that serve their local markets as well serve as hubs for especially ports at the Indian Ocean Rim. In addition to container operations, the facilities in Bahrain, Salalah and Pipavav also offer substantial bulk and general cargo operations at dedicated facilities.
