Senior-level HQ post will focus on expanding the customer base for APM Terminals’ global terminal network

APM Terminals announced the appointment of Richard Mitchell as Chief Commercial Officer effective January 1, 2009. Mitchell makes the move to APM Terminals from Maersk Line Ltd., where he held the position of Director of Sales and Marketing for the UK and Ireland.

Mitchell brings with him nearly two decades of expertise in the container industry, including experience in all aspects of terminal and vessel operations, intermodal transportation and logistics. Along with a broad range of increasingly senior positions within the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group, including 15 years with the Maersk Company UK, Ltd., where he began as a Regional Sales Manager for Scotland in 1987, he also served as Director for Forth Ports, Ltd., before returning to Maersk Line in 2004.

The addition of Mitchell to the APM Terminals headquarters is part of the ongoing focus on growing and diversifying its customer base to become a recognized commercially successful enterprise. Mitchell replaces Tiemen Meester in the post of CCO following Meester’s move to head Human Resources earlier this year.

Commented Mitchell, “The APM Terminals Global Terminal Network is setting the pace for the industry. I am looking forward to working with the leading shipping companies and ports of the world and understanding their requirements better as we continue to expand to meet the needs of our customers, and the need for modern terminal capacity and infrastructure world-wide.”
