'Throughout his career, Rob has been a strong advocate for the trucking industry and has worked tirelessly to improve the industry's safety record,' said Dave Osiecki, senior vice president of policy and regulator affairs. 'I congratulate him on his appointment to this important group and expect he'll continue to effectively represent the interests of the industry.'
Osiecki represented ATA on the committee from 2006 through 2011.
Abbott returned to ATA after serving as vice president of safety and compliance for TransForce Inc., an ATA member and nationwide transportation staffing firm. Prior to his time at TransForce, Abbott had been ATA's director of safety policy in the 1990s.
Established in 2006, the 19-member Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Committee is compromised of industry experts and law enforcement officials, as well as labor and advocacy groups, and advises the FMCSA Administrator on matters of safety and regulation.
