The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will hold an industry briefing for potential bidders interested in the proposed development of a new greenfield marine container terminal on the Delaware River, south of the Walt Whitman Bridge.

The industry briefing will be held on Monday, August 11, 2008 at the Philadelphia Cruise Terminal, 5100 South Broad St, Bldg 3 in Philadelphia, PA at 10:00 a.m. A site visit will follow. Please see details and map at www.dgs.state.pa.us, click on “Philadelphia Southport Development.”

The proposed development site is located on the Delaware River south of the Walt Whitman Bridge, in the City of Philadelphia, on the former US Navy base. The project site boasts access to three class one railroads, access to two interstate highways, an “air draft” or height limit of 188 feet, and significant quantities of contiguous, undeveloped waterfront property.

The Port of Philadelphia has many assets as well including flexible ILA workforce, a convenient inland location on the Delaware River with direct access to many major consumer markets and a lower throughput cost per box for shipping lines.

The development will be procured and delivered through a Public Private Partnership. Requests for Qualifications (RFQ) will be considered by the Pennsylvania Department of General Services following the Industry Briefing. The industry briefing will focus on key issues and opportunities associated with the project, as well as details of the solicitation. It is also intended as a networking opportunity for interested financiers, terminal operators, investors and associated service providers.
