Averitt Express is expanding its flatbed operation that it launched earlier this year.

For several months Averitt has been offering flatbed services in key markets, such as Birmingham, Ala.; Atlanta, Ga.; Cincinnati, Ohio; Louisville, Ky.; and Nashville, Tenn., but is now expanding those services due to customer demand.

According to Phil Pierce, Averitt's Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing, what started out as a 12-flatbed trailer operation has quickly multiplied into a current fleet of more than 50 flatbeds, with about 50 additional flatbed trailers on order.

"Customer feedback indicated a demand for flatbed services in several areas across our network, so it was a logical line extension for us," said Pierce. "We're excited about the success we've seen thus far, and we'r planning for even more growth in the future."

As a result of the expansion, Averitt says it's currently hiring regional flatbed drivers in several locations.
