AZ announced that it is now using an environmentally friendly lashing system from Cordstrap for securing export and domestic cargo loads, rather than the traditional use of lumber. The new 'green' process provides for better cube utilization of containers, as well as better cargo security and restraint.

AZ has paired reusable nylon airbags and polyester Cordstraps, completely eliminating the need for wood blocking and bracing during cargo transport. The Cordstrap system has been implemented at AZ's seven facilities in New Jersey, California, Illinois, Georgia, South Carolina and Florida to enhance its existing freight services.

'By going 'green' with our new cargo restraint system, we will be able to save hundreds of trees each year,' said AZ President Richard Lombardi. 'This process will allow us to continue providing secure cargo transportation worldwide, while making conscious decisions to protect the environment.'

AZ's new system has been approved for effective cargo security by the National Cargo Bureau, offering straps that are lightweight and portable, chemical and weather- resistant and shock-absorbent. Cordstraps also do not rust or damage products within the containers.

A further benefit of Cordstraps is that they eliminate the need for cargo fumigation, allowing AZ to potentially expand exports overseas to countries that are sensitive to insects.
