Descartes Systems Group announced that Big E Transportation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Estes Express Lines, implemented Descartes' Route Planner On-demand and MobileLink solution to plan, optimize and dispatch routes across its entire home delivery operations.

Part of the Descartes Delivery Management suite, Descartes Route Planner On-demand and MobileLink is a cloud-based solution that allows organizations to build, dispatch and track routes, sales people or merchandizers.

Estes has provided top-quality transportation solutions since 1931.

Throughout the years, Estes has grown from a small, one-man operation to one of the top 25 carriers in the industry.

Big E's decision to deploy Descartes' Route Planner for its entire home delivery operations was based on key factors including the pay-as-you-go subscription model and the solution's web-native architecture. This allowed for quicker and lower-cost implementation, delivering fast time-to-value while maintaining the flexibility to expand the solution as business needs evolve. Additionally, the integrated two-way wireless communication capabilities extend traditional route planning by incorporating a free flow of information between dispatch and the field.

"Our home delivery business has grown significantly. We were looking for a solution that delivered a quick and measurable return on investment," says Bobby Speight, Vice President, Estes Specialized at Estes. "Descartes' Route Planner On-demand and MobileLink optimizes our home delivery routes and maximizes efficiency by taking into account geographic zones, time windows and other physical constraints when planning delivery fleets. The solution also provides our dispatchers, customer service representatives and remote personnel with a real-time, global view of driver movement and delivery status across our entire enterprise."

"We are pleased that a subsidiary of an industry leader such as Estes selected Descartes to improve their home delivery process efficiency. Our solution helps drive operational inefficiencies, ultimately cutting costs and improving service for Big E's customers," said Kenneth Wood, Senior Vice President, Product Strategy at Descartes.
