'We realized immediate fuel savings by utilizing R:COM's data and reporting capabilities to optimize fuel purchasing and to coach drivers about idle and driving habits, including shift points and optimal RPM ranges,' reported Joe Blanke, a dispatch manager at UTi's distribution group that has played an instrumental role in the implementation process. Other areas where UTi is realizing savings from the R:COM solution includes lower communication costs. Previously, the company relied on a satellite only capability that did not always enable accurate up to the minute vehicle tracking information. The carrier also points to time savings associated with the R:COM's solution to driver Hours of Service management capabilities, including enabling a process that cuts hours of scanning and auditing logs.
