Giant U.S. agribusiness firm Cargill Inc said it will invest $30 million to expand storage and shipping capacity at its grain facility in south central Nebraska.
Cargill plans to increase storage at its Holdrege, Nebraska, terminal by 3.5 million bushels, raising total capacity to 5 million bushels. Additionally, the company will add BNSF Railway service to handle 120-car shuttle trains along with three new truck pits to receive grain from area farmers.
"In addition to the local markets we have been serving by truck, the added rail service will expand the markets for farmer customers to the Pacific Northwest and the U.S. Southwest," Phil Harders, leader of Cargill AgHorizons U.S. Cornhusker Farm Service Group, said in a statement.
The project is expected to be completed by the harvest of 2014.
