• Turn times decreased by 50% at Port of Los Angeles
  • Applications now being accepted from prospective shippers and carriers
Cargomatic, the app that instantly connects shippers and carriers, has launched an innovative new operating system aimed at alleviating congestion at the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach and beyond. The Cargomatic Free Flow Program allows containers from multiple shippers to be grouped together in designated stacks at the ports. The Cargomatic operating system then alerts pre-vetted carriers when a container from that stack is available, and advises them exactly where to look for it and where it needs to go. Terminal operators no longer have to search for an individual container among thousands. Instead, they can pull one from the designated Cargomatic stack, allowing containers to be moved with more frequency and at a faster rate than ever before. Once a shipment is delivered, the Cargomatic app presents the driver with a list of empty containers to choose from in their vicinity for the return trip to the port.  Since launching in January 2015 at the West Basin Container Terminal (WBCT) at the Port of Los Angeles, the Cargomatic Free Flow Program has been used by brand name retailers and carriers alike, and has helped to decrease turn times by as much as 50%.   Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti has praised the Cargomatic Free Flow Program, and operators at the Port of Los Angeles have said the increased efficiency it provides is welcome following months of labor disruptions.   “Free flow programs are already proven to significantly cut turn times at ports. Now, with Cargomatic’s proprietary technology, shippers and carriers of all sizes are able to realize gains in efficiency only previously available to the biggest shippers. It helps improve performance and profit for everyone in the supply chain, and it’s all available through an easy-to-use smartphone app,” said Cargomatic co-founder and COO Brett Parker. To help expand efficiency at other port terminals, Cargomatic is currently reviewing a limited number of applications from prospective shippers and carriers who wish to take part in the Cargomatic Free Flow Program.    “Technology is essential in helping to bring more efficiency to shipping. Our new program has already been lauded by shippers and truckers alike at the Port of LA, and we are confident that it can prove beneficial at other ports too. We look forward to partnering with additional businesses on this exciting new venture soon,” said Cargomatic co-founder and CEO Jonathan Kessler.
