Intermodal downturn continues in Q3

Total intermodal volumes dropped 3.7 percent year-over-year in the third quarter of 2019, according to the Intermodal Association of North America's Intermodal Market Trends & Statistics report. International shipments nudged down 0.8 percent from 2018, while domestic containers and trailers fell 4.9 percent and 17.6 percent, respectively.

43.4 percent of trucks operating in EPA Region 3 powered by near-zero emissions diesel tech

In the states that comprise EPA Region 3, the newest, cleanest, near-zero-emissions diesel truck technologies now make up 43.4 percent of the diesel-powered commercial vehicles on U.S. roads – from box delivery trucks to 18-wheelers, according to the Diesel Technology Forum’s analysis of 2018-2019 U.S. vehicles in operation data (Class 3-8) provided by IHS Markit.

Liebherr Container Cranes Ltd. recently delivered three RTGs to CSX Intermodal Terminals (CSXIT) in the US. The RTGs, two for Bedford Park, Chicago, Illinois and one for Worcester, Massachusetts have entered service in the past two months delivering fuel savings of up to 40%.
