China Cargo Airlines has appointed Bangkok Flight Services (BFS) as its cargo handling partner in Bangkok.

The new contract will see BFS handling 20,000 tons of freight a year for the Shanghai-based airline, which serves Bangkok with MD11, Boeing 747 and B777 aircraft. China Cargo Airlines currently serves Thailand's capital with six flights a week linking the city with Singapore and Shanghai.

BFS is a joint venture between Worldwide Flight Services (WFS), the world's largest cargo handling organisation, and Bangkok Airways, the second largest regional scheduled carrier in Thailand. WFS already provide handling services for China Cargo Airlines in France, Italy and the United States.

Barry Nassberg, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President for WFS, stated: 'BFS is proud to have added China Cargo Airlines (CK) to our large portfolio of carriers in Bangkok. The importance of CK to link China with Europe and the Middle East through Bangkok is paramount and fully supports the carriers already handled by BFS that connect Thailand to Europe and the Middle East. We believe that our global network through WFS makes a strong case for large carriers to develop preferred handlers to minimise the number of contracts they need to manage.

'We have been able to attract one of the largest Chinese freighter operators through our attention to safety, security and speed of handling plus the fact that large carriers gain benefits from single service providers across their networks.'
