Con-way Freight, a less-than-truckload carrier and subsidiary of Con-way Inc., announced that it is creating 50 new inside sales jobs.

"We are delighted to be growing in Ann Arbor," said John G. Labrie, president, Con-way Freight. "With our established customer base and top-notch pay and benefits package, there has never been a better time to join Con-way Freight."

"We are confident that the talent pool in Southeast Michigan and Northeast Ohio will yield the proven inside sales professionals we need to complement our existing team and help us grow our business," he added.

"Access to talent continues to be a motivating factor for businesses seeking opportunities to locate and expand in the Ann Arbor region," said Michael A. Finney, CEO, Ann Arbor SPARK. "Leading companies like Con-way Freight recognize that the region is a destination for business growth."

This workforce expansion follows Con-way Freight's August 2007 announcement that it would combine its three regional operating companies into one centralized operation headquartered in Ann Arbor to improve the customer experience and streamline its processes. The 50 new inside sales jobs are part of a business transformation designed to improve Con-way Freight's performance by enabling the company to anticipate and respond to customer needs more quickly and intelligently. As the positions are filled, Con-way Freight's presence in the Greater Ann Arbor area will increase to nearly 400 employees.

"I joined Con-way in this role 18 years ago, and it served as the perfect entry into the company and this industry," added Labrie. "Con-way is a growth company. Building a great sales team is a critical component of our strategy -- one that will help accelerate our market share gains and extend our service leadership in the transportation industry."
