Four drivers recognized for commitment to safety

Con-way Freight, a less-than-truckload (LTL) freight carrier and subsidiary of Con-way Inc., announced that four of its professional truck drivers have achieved two million accident-free miles. These successes were celebrated at the local service centers of drivers James Coveney of Denver, CO; Jorge Quezada of Santa Fe Springs, CA; Larry Painter of Fresno, CA; and Efrain Gomez of Fontana, CA.

“These individuals have achieved an extraordinary safety record and represent a distinguished group of drivers at Con-way,’ said David S. McClimon, president, Con-way Freight. “Their dedication is exemplary and helps us all remember the importance of safety as a core company value.’

James Coveney is a native of Tracy, CA, and now resides in Parker, Colo., with his wife of 25 years and is a driver at the Denver, CO, Con-way Freight service center. In his time off, James is an avid bass fisherman and also enjoys Colorado big game hunting. For James, two million accident-free miles represent more than 4,700 trips on his typical route between Denver, CO, and Wamsutter, WY.

A native of Mexico City, Jorge Quezada resides in Buena Park, Calif., with his wife of 37 years and is a driver at the Santa Fe Springs, CA, Con-way Freight service center. In his spare time, he enjoys electronics, vacationing with his wife and participating in the Ham Radio Club of California. For Jorge, two million miles is the equivalent of more than 4,300 trips on his typical route between Los Angeles and Las Vegas without incident. He was also the recipient of a 2004 Michigan State Defensive Driving Award.

Larry Painter lives in Fresno, CA, with his wife of 32 years and is a driver at the Fresno, CA, Con-way Freight service center. In his time off, he enjoys collecting die-cast cars. For Larry, two million miles represent more than 4,300 accident-free runs of his typical route between Fresno and Willows, Calif. He also earned company honors as California Driver of the Month in 1999 and 2003, and California Driver of the Year in 2003.

A native of Los Angeles, Efrain Gomez resides in Hemet, CA, and is a driver at the Fontana, CA, Con-way Freight service center. In his free time, he enjoys flying, free diving and spearfishing. For Efrain, two million miles represent approximately 20,000 safe runs of his current route between Fontana and Temecula, CA.

The drivers honored have a combined total of more than 120 years of professional driving experience, 85 of those with Con-way Freight.
