The US Chamber of Commerce board of directors elected David L. Miller to serve as a member of the board for a two-year term ending in 2009. David L. Miller is chief operating officer for Con-way Freight Inc., the largest of Con-way Inc.'s three primary operating companies.

"David brings an excellent combination of both business and leadership experience to this position,' said Chamber President and CEO Tom Donohue. "He will be highly valuable as a leader for the Chamber.'

As a member of the board of directors, Miller will address issues facing state and local chambers, associations, and other business groups to advance pro-growth policies and programs, as well as advise senior Chamber staff on a wide range of topics.

Con-way Inc. is a $4.7 billion transportation and logistics services company providing high-performance, day-definite less-than-truckload (LTL) and full truckload and intermodal freight transportation, as well as logistics, warehousing and supply chain management services, and trailer manufacturing.

A 30-year veteran of the trucking industry, Miller joined Con-way Transportation Services, Inc. (CTS) in 1983 as a freight operations supervisor. In 1998, he was named director of strategic planning for CTS, responsible for determining the company's strategic direction, including new business development, research, operating processes and e-commerce initiatives. He was named vice president of strategic planning in 2000.

Named to his current position in 2007, Miller is the company's top operations executive, responsible for overseeing functional activities and departments including line-haul operations, fleet acquisition and maintenance, real estate development, security, administration and development of technology initiatives. Previously, he was president of Con-way Freight-Central. Prior to that, Miller had served as president of former sister company Con-way Southern Express since the end of 2002.

Miller is a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, and attended the University of Cincinnati. He is based at Con-way Freight's headquarters in Ann Arbor, Mich.
