Continental delivers quicker express service for Manhattan

By: | at 08:00 PM | Channel(s): Air Cargo

Continental Airlines Cargo has created an exciting new express product that will cut hours off the transit times of critical small packages to and from Manhattan. The innovative idea is to combine the carrier’s redeye flights from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, San Diego, Portland, Phoenix or Las Vegas arriving into Newark Liberty International Airport around 6:00 a.m.—with the frequent passenger ferry services of the New York Waterway (NYWW). With a fast ramp transfer of packages from Liberty International Airport, via secured van to the Imperial Terminal at the Hudson River, critical shipments speed across the river and arrive into Midtown Manhattan by 7:40 a.m. The convenient arrival point is Continental’s sparkling new QUICKPAK ticket counter at the New York Waterway 39th Street Terminal.

The same idea works for vital packages leaving Manhattan. Using a narrow two hour closeout window at the 39th Street Terminal, shippers can access the fastest service available to Continental’s extensive European and domestic network. No carrier offers more nonstop options from the New York area.

‘This is the quickest and most reliable way to get vital packages to and from Manhattan. We believe this is a better mousetrap because it cuts hours off the current express options into JFK. And if you consider helicopter service, you face uncertain cargo payloads,’ said Continental’s Vice President-Cargo Division, Jack Boisen. ‘This will be the only service of its kind in the New York market.’

By using the passenger ferry to move express cargo, Continental is able to avoid the usual traps that impact ground transportation, such as bridges, tunnels, tolls and heavy traffic. The maximum time Continental will take from the aircraft landing at Newark, to delivery at its new QUICKPAK office in Midtown, will be 90 minutes.

The new product will be fully operational September 25. CO’s new QUICKPAK office at the 39th Street Terminal is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Couriers and forwarders can take advantage of the 100% money back guarantee for Continental’s award-winning QUICKPAK express package service. Packages can be accepted up to 90 linear inches and weighing no more than 100 pounds. Free parking is offered at the new office.
