President Barack Obama has announced that he will be nominating Long Beach Harbor Commissioner Mario Cordero to fill a vacancy on the Federal Maritime Commission.

In a White House statement announcing Cordero’s nomination, and others, the President said, “I am confident that these impressive men and women will make valued additions to this administration. I look forward to working with them in the months and years ahead.”

Cordero’s nomination will go to the Senate for confirmation.

“I am honored President Obama has nominated me for this very important position,” said Cordero, a Long Beach workers’ compensation defense attorney. “My seven years as a Long Beach Harbor Commissioner has prepared me well for the Federal Maritime Commission. I now look forward to the Senate’s consideration of my nomination.”
