Cordero will be president of the association when Long Beach hosts the annual conference in 2011. He served as First Vice President of the organization for the 2009-2010 term.
“With the expansion of trans-Pacific trade, keeping open the lines of communication and sharing ideas among ports is more important than ever,” said Cordero. “The Association of Pacific Ports is a great way for an otherwise competitive industry to work together to find solutions and move forward.”
First appointed to the Long Beach Board of Harbor Commissioners in 2003, Cordero was reappointed by Mayor Bob Foster in 2009 for a second, six-year term. The Board of Harbor Commissioners serves as the governing body for the Port of Long Beach.
The Association of Pacific Ports was founded in 1913 as a trade and information association to promote trade and port efficiency in the Pacific Ocean region. All ports located in areas tributary to the Pacific Ocean are eligible to join the Association of Pacific Ports. Current membership includes ports in American Samoa, British Columbia, California, Guam, Hawaii, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Northern Mariana Islands, Oregon, Taiwan, and Washington.
Cordero succeeds Kim B. Puzey, General Manager of the Port of Umatilla, Ore.
