"The development of a maritime cluster which extends throughout the maritime industry is a model which has worked very well in several European coastal states", said Alan Bowen, CEO, Davie. "I commend Premier Couillard and Minister D'Amour for their recognition of the importance of the naval shipbuilding industry to the province's economy." Davie would also like to highlight the Quebec government's initiative to work with the federal government to ensure that Quebec's shipyards participate in the renewal of the Canadian Navy's fleet. Moreover, the Quebec government will invest in other beneficial measures in order to develop Quebec's shipyards by maintaining the refundable tax credit for the construction and refitting of ship; by pinpointing other financial means and alternatives to the surety and guarantees respecting shipbuilding, and through additional capital to develop local shipyards. The support for additional training programs in order to develop a skilled workforceand research and development efforts made in Quebec will help the maritime sector seize new development opportunities. Davie eagerly awaits the opportunity to collaborate further with local colleges and technical schools. Furthermore, the Quebec government's decision to encourage the use of more sustainable energy sources such as LNG is also good news for Davie.
