Concentration on continental and maritime market segments

DB Intermodal has restructured its sales operations to focus on serving customers in the "Maritime Transportation" and "Continental Transportation" market segments. The business segment for intermodal transportation services within the DB Group has taken this step in order to pursue a more customer and market-driven approach in response to current market developments. DB Intermodal is also setting up a key account management system.

"Effective immediately, each of our customers will be assigned a single contact person. This is a decisive step that will allow us to deal with our customers' specific needs faster than has been possible to date, to offer them solutions from a single source and thus operate more effectively on the market," said DB Intermodal CEO Hans-Georg Werner.

By focusing on the continental and maritime market activities of operators, freight forwarders and shipping companies who operate throughout Europe, DB Intermodal is enhancing its sales operations. These had previously been set up along the geographic transit corridors.

Werner: "The prerequisites we have on the intermodal market are very different today than they were just a few years ago. The important thing now, in an extremely dynamic and continually changing competitive environment, is to secure the entire intermodal system and to be ready for the growth phase that is expected to follow the current economic turmoil."

Also, Andreas Schulz was appointed new head of sales management. In the last few years, Schulz (41) has held various management positions at DB Schenker Rail. Prior to this new appointment, he was responsible for managing the central corridor. He now takes over from Hans-Georg Werner, DB Intermodal CEO, who has additionally been responsible for sales since October 2008.
