Construction of the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority's Deltaport Third Berth (DP3) is on schedule for completion in fall 2009 at Roberts Bank in Delta, British Columbia. The first perimeter dike and infilling has been completed and preloading to densify and settle the landmass in this section is in progress.

Construction of the tug basin is close to completion. The related sheet pile bulkhead has been completed. Seaspan is expected to relocate the new tug basin in the middle of May. Once the tug basin relocation is complete, the second perimeter dike can be built to allow the final area to be filled and preloaded.

The caisson trench dredging has been completed and the rock mattress for the caisson dock structures is being placed and densified.

Ten concrete caissons (dock structures) are required to create the outer edge of the new berth. The caissons were constructed in North Vancouver, British Columbia and eight were towed by tug to Roberts Bank for storage. In November 2007, an unexpectedly strong winter storm caused damage to several of the caissons stored on-site, which resulted in two of the structures requiring repair prior to placement. Once the densification of the mattress rock is complete, the caissons will be floated into position and placed on top of the mattress rock. Work on habitat compensation projects is underway with the construction of the Salt Marsh project and off-site compensation. In total, CA$25 million will be spent on environmental initiatives that focus on local marine, mammals and wildlife.
