DHX-Dependable Hawaiian Express has announced it now is measuring carbon emissions for its trucking fleet in addition to auditing emissions of company locations on the U.S. Mainland, in Hawaii and Guam.

Brad Dechter, President, DHX-Dependable Hawaiian Express, stated the freight forwarder and logistics provider has become a Greenway Miles Certified Carrier. Greenway Miles is an organization providing the logistics industry with comprehensive audits of carbon emissions.

"We have joined this important program for two reasons," Dechter explained. "The first is to add a valued service to our customers by responding to their growing sustainability concerns. We will be providing them with carbon reporting and carbon neutral shipping alternatives. The second is to provide a carbon baseline for DHX to use in monitoring our own progress is lowering emissions for both our trucking fleet and facilities."

"We directed Greenway Miles to perform separate audits at each of our locations on the Mainland, in Hawaii and Guam," he continued. "Separate audits are vital to the program because they provide location-specific carbon reporting to our customers. They also give our company a much clearer picture of carbon emissions and how we can reduce them," Dechter commented.

The DHX-Dependable Hawaiian Express President is convinced that all logistic companies "eventually will have to report both baseline carbon emissions and how they can be reduced. Shippers are becoming increasingly concerned about the carbon content of vendors in their supply chains. While the critical balance of rates and service will remain the decisive factor in awarding business, reporting carbon content will become a vital, added reasonin choosing a a logistics provider. Shipper requirements aside, finding and applying the tools, funding the resources and providing leadership for sustainability improvement simply is the right thing to do in an industrialized world emitting greater amounts of carbon." Stated Joe White, CEO at Atlanta-based Greenway Miles, "we offer companies in the logistics industry carbon audits and other sustainability services.

By certifying DHX-Dependable Hawaiian Express as a Certified Carrier, the forwarder now has the ability not only to report carbon emissions on a per mile basis, but also to provide customers with carbon neutral shipping solutions."
