Globe Air Cargo, part of ECS Group, has won the cargo general sales agency contract for Icelandair in Italy.

The contract, which began this month, will see ECS generating cargo for the airline's 757 freighter flights from Li'ge in Belgium. Globe will truck cargo from Italy to connect with the flights. During the summer, it will also market Icelandair's seasonal B757 passenger operation from Malpensa.

In Italy, Globe will market capacity to Reykjavik and Greenland and also expects strong support for the airline's onward connections from Iceland to the USA and Canada, notably New York JFK, Seattle, Chicago, Washington, Toronto, Montreal and Halifax.

Carlo Gonzato, Globe Air Cargo's Country Manager in Italy, said: 'ECS Group already has a strong relationship with Icelandair in Scandinavia. This, plus our ability to provide a reliable trucking service between Italy and Li'ge, helped us to win this contract in Italy. We expect to generate foodstuffs and fashion cargoes to Iceland and see a huge opportunity for general cargo to the USA and Canada by marketing this alternative way to both markets via Reykjavik.'
