ECT and Kombiverkehr jointly gave the signal for the launch of the 'Betuwe-Express'. The train will operate a daily service between the ECT terminals in Rotterdam Maasvlakte and the DeCeTe hinterland terminal in Duisburg. The connection allows direct onward transport of containers from Maasvlakte to the hinterland and vice versa.

The connection between DeCeTe and the Port of Duisburg-Ruhrort DUSS terminal also guarantees excellent services to more than 70 destinations in Europe, for example to and from Leipzig or Munich, and further on to Italy, Poland, Slovenia and Turkey.

'We will make even better use of capacity on the train with new partnerships and will thus be able to offer our own customers daily departures on this important western ports route,' says Robert Breuhahn, Managing Director of Frankfurt-based Kombiverkehr, explaining the reason for moving to the DeCeTe terminal.

The rail link fits in with the ECT Extended Gate' concept, which envisages the connection of ECT deep-sea terminals with a network of its own hinterland terminals. In this ECT offers its customers fast and efficient rail links to the European hinterland. This strategy also supports efforts to transport containers increasingly by rail and inland waterways. According to ECT's President Jan Westerhoud: 'As a provider of logistics services, we would like to offer our customers a high-quality network that uses rail and inland waterways to the greatest possible extent. Our own network opens up an opportunity for us to offer our customers the kind of additional services that can make a real difference to them.'
