US AF General John Handy (Ret.) named Dir of the Boards of . . .
US Air Force General John W. Handy, recently retired Commander of the United States Transportation Command and the United States Air Mobility Command became a Director on the Boards of American Roll-On Roll-Off Carrier (ARC), and American Auto Logistics (AAL), on October 1, 2005.“General Handy will advise us particularly on matters of long term strategy and development of future markets and business opportunities. We are delighted to have him with us as a Board Director and Senior Advisor,” said Ray Ebeling, Chairman and President of both ARC and AAL.
In discussing General Handy’s accomplishments and impact, Ebeling said one had to look no further than the “Tribute to A Leader” delivered by the Honorable Jim Saxton of New Jersey in the US House of Representatives on September 6, 2006. “General Handy will be remembered as the man who brilliantly led our Nation’s mobility forces during the Global War on Terrorism. It is clear and widely accepted that General Handy is the pre- eminent mobility and logistics expert in the Depart of Defense.”
ARC is the largest US Flag ro/ro carrier and the third largest US Flag international liner carrier, providing US Flag roll-on/roll-off services between the US and the Mideast and Europe.
AAL is a New Jersey based logistics management company, which manages DOD’s Global POV Contract, and is one of DOD’s top 100 contractors.
General Handy retired recently following a 39-year career in the Air Force. He has served for over four years as Commanding General of USTRANSCOM, the single transportation manager for air, land and sea transportation for the Department of Defense.
Handy is a graduate of Methodist College of Fayetteville, NC, earned his Master’s degree in systems management from the University of Southern California, and attended the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard. He received an honorary Doctor of Humanities from Methodist College in 1992. In November, Handy will be a recipient of the Admiral of the Ocean Sea Award.
