Cargoitalia launches second route
Cargoitalia’s second scheduled service - from Milan to New York and Toronto ’ began operating recently, utilizing the airline’s second MD11SF freighter.Flights will now operate twice weekly on Thursdays (under flight numbers 2G4630 outbound, and 2G4631 inbound) and Sundays (flight numbers 2G4660 and 2G4661).
Cargoitalia has appointed New York-based Heavyweight Air Express (HAE) as its US-wide GSSA. Says HAE Director Peter Kerins: ‘Cargoitalia is one of few carriers offering maindeck capacity between the USA and Italy. There are also strong opportunities in Europe using road feeders from the airline’s Milan hub.’
In Canada, Cargoitalia’s GSSA is Network Cargo Services. Its President Howard Jones says: ‘The potential for cargo from Canada to Italy, and central- and eastern Europe is strong, as we are offering the only freighter capacity for those markets. In addition, Cargoitalia’s route network beyond Milan makes the product very attractive here. We are working very closely with Cargoitalia to ensure the interline connections and road feeders work well in both directions; we intend to be good right out of the box.’
Cargoitalia and its new GSSAs held launch parties in both New York and Toronto, attended by members of the local airfreight communities. Says the airline’s Commercial Director Roberto Gilardoni: ‘Once again, we are grateful for the very positive reception we have received from agents in Italy and our new markets of the USA and Canada. The teamwork between our sales agents, our handlers and our own staff has resulted in a quality product that we are sure will continue to attract strong support from the industry.’
The launch of Cargoitalia’s services to the USA and Canada follows the successful start of twice-weekly flights to Hong Kong on September 10th.
