Roadway, a subsidiary of YRC Worldwide, announced that it was named ‘2008 Carrier of the Year’ by the National Shippers Strategic Transportation Council (NASSTRAC) and Logistics Management magazine. The annual program recognizes transportation providers on a quantitative scale in five key areas: customer service, operational excellence, pricing, business relationship, leadership and technology.
‘We are extremely honored to be receiving this industry award,’ said Terry Gilbert, President of Roadway. ‘Our team continues to strive to exceed the demands and expectations of our customers, so being honored by them is particularly rewarding.’
NASSTRAC is an organization of transportation industry professionals dedicated to providing and promoting advocacy, education, provider relationships and networking opportunities to its members. Some topics for discussion at this year’s conference include: supply chain management, capacity challenges, cost reduction strategies, legislation updates, global logistics, driver standards & productivity, safety, security, & disaster planning and outsourcing practices.
The 2008 Carrier of the Year Awards Program will take place during the NASSTRAC Logistics Conference & Expo taking place April 27-30 at the Buena Vista Palace & Spa in Orlando, FL. Roadway President Terry Gilbert will accept the award on the company’s behalf, and will speak briefly at the ceremony.
Mike Smid, president and CEO of YRC North American Transportation, will also speak on an industry panel at the conference titled: CEO Perspectives: ‘2008 Market Conditions, Operations Challenges, and Beyond.’
This year, NASSTRAC regular members who are qualified buyers of transportation services graded carriers they use on a four-point scale in the following categories based upon regional scope and capabilities: National, Multi-Regional, Regional-Northeast, Regional-Southeast, Regional-Midwest, Regional-West, Parcel, and Expedited. Due to significant growth NASSTRAC has experienced as a result of its expanded coverage to all transportation modes, the Regional-Midwest and Expedited categories were added last year.
