Dnata Cargo welcomes new customers to Freezone Logistics CenterEnters next phase of expansion to meet demand
Dnata Cargo recently welcomed three new carriers to the Freezone Logistics Centre (FLC), bringing the number of operators at its facility in the Dubai Airport Free Zone to 42.
Al-Rais Cargo from Iran, AST Pakistan and Vega Airlines of Bulgaria have opted to operate from the FLC and benefit from the option of a self-handling facility, and direct access to airside for their business. Operated by Dnata, the FLC is a dedicated freighter terminal for both scheduled and charter operators. It offers flexible, cost-effective handling options, as well as an efficient link between the free zone community and Dubai’s main cargo terminal.
Ismail Ali Albanna, Dnata’s Executive Vice President said: “Since the FLC opened its doors in 1999, it has been Dubai’s answer for the many scheduled and charter operators seeking efficient and cost effective freight handling services. The facility recorded tremendous growth last year, welcoming new operators as well as increased flight frequencies from existing operators. On average, there were 750 flights operating from the FLC each month.”
To cope with the rising demand, a new phase of expansion at the FLC is underway to build a fully automated cargo handling centre with a 300,000 tonne capacity. Dnata had previously doubled the FLC’s capacity in 2003 by adding over 12,000 square meters of warehouse space, airline office space, and a business center to the original facility.
Jean-Pierre De Pauw, Dnata Cargo’s Senior Vice President said: “In the six months from April to September 2004, the FLC handled in excess of 51,000 tons - a 54% increase in volumes over the same period last year. The FLC’s latest phase of expansion would again double the size of the existing facility, adding another 20,300 square metres of warehouse and office space.” Mr. De Pauw added that the FLC’s latest phase of expansion is expected to be operational at the end of 2005. Upon completion, Dnata’s FLC will be the only terminal in the region to offer tailor-made services to charter operators at competitive rates, a provision for tenancy and self-handling privileges, plus an option for premium services - all under one roof.
