Godwin named NCSPA director of federal government relations
Laura M. Godwin has joined the NC State Ports Authority as director of federal government relations.“Laura brings to the Authority working knowledge and experience in Federal public policy and processes,” Ports Authority CEO Thomas J. Eagar said. “Her Congressional experience parallels the Authority’s mission to enhance economic development in North Carolina. She will provide key advice and guidance on our strategic initiatives, especially port expansion projects crucial to our mission.”
She will work closely with the CEO and Board of Directors, and also be an integral part of the Authority’s port planning and development team led by Bill Bennett.
“Much of the successful growth and expansion at our Ports in Wilmington and Morehead City, and especially the proposed NC International Port, will depend on significant infrastructure improvements,” Mr. Eagar continued. “Federal support for these projects will be paramount.”
Ms. Godwin most recently served as the district director for policy and economic development in U.S. Rep. Mike McIntyre’s Wilmington office. She also served as legislative assistant to former U.S. Sen. John Edwards, with responsibility in the areas of appropriations, agriculture, rural economy, national defense and natural disasters.
She holds a master’s degree from George Washington University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She lives in Wilmington and will divide her time between Washington, D.C. and North Carolina.
