Dense fog stops traffic for third day at Houston Ship Channel
Houston Ship Channel traffic was stopped on Wednesday for a third day this week due to dense fog, the U.S. Coast Guard said on Wednesday.
About 78 ships were waiting on Wednesday to traverse the 53-mile (85-kilometer) waterway connecting the busiest U.S. petrochemical port to the Gulf of Mexico, a Coast Guard official said in a telephone interview.
Ship pilots halted vessel movement along the Ship Channel on Tuesday night as a dense sea fog blanketed the area, the Coast Guard said. Traffic was also stopped Monday and much of Tuesday when fog reduced visibility to unsafe levels. (Reporting by Erwin Seba; Editing by Bernadette Baum)
