Embarcadero Systems Corp. (ESC) recently announced it is a winner in the sixth annual 'Supply Chain Innovator Awards' evaluation, which recognizes companies that have implemented new systems and processes in their manufacturing and logistics operations that result in performance excellence.

Nominations for the annual award, solicited through the Supply Chain NewsLink electronic newsletter and e-mailed calls-for-entry, were first reviewed by analysts at Boston-based AMR Research and then scored by editors at Supply Chain Systems magazine, now known as Supply Chain Manufacturing & Logistics. ESC's implementation of its marine terminal management and safety software systems and the benefits experienced by its end-user client, Total Terminals International (TTI) in Long Beach, CA, were detailed in the October 2005 issue of Supply Chain Systems.

'We at ESC are extremely pleased to have been nominated and given top marks for this annual award,' said President Scott Skillman. 'Having been in the maritime business for 25 years, we have a long history of enabling terminals to increase their efficiency with innovative and effective products.'

ESC implemented one of the largest global deployments of CATOS, a terminal management system that is the backbone of terminal operations including vessel planning and loading, rail and yard management, and gate operations.

ESC also deployed ESC smartGATE, a in- and out- gate system that processes trucks into and out of the terminal. smartGATE delivers high truck throughput and productivity at a lower operating cost per move than other systems. smartGATE integrates audio, digital video, printing, biometric and identification systems such as Itsco Auto ID, which includes magnetic card readers from ID-Tech and bar code readers from Microscan Systems.

ESC recently began developing systems for one of the largest terminal automation projects in the world, Euromax Terminal NV in Rotterdam, where ESC is the prime contractor for a consortium to provide the Terminal Operating System (CATOS) and Equipment Control System (ECS). The Euromax project acknowledges ESC's ability to deliver end-to-end solutions including CATOS, project management and systems integration. ESC's partnership with FROG4, the development platform for ECS, is delivering a recognized best-of-breed solution for Euromax.

In the United States, ESC is currently providing systems integration and solutions to modernize seven of the highest-volume container terminals on the US West Coast operated by Marine Terminal Corporation. ESC has integrated Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology at the terminal gate operations, rail yard and vessel, and Global Position Systems (GPS) technology on the Container Handling equipment. These terminals handle approximately 30% of US West Coast container volumes and include Seaside Transportation Services (Evergreen) and West Basin Container Terminal (China Shipping and Yang Ming Line), in addition to TTI (Hanjin).
