With a ceremonial dousing with water by the Munich Airport Fire Department, Emirates SkyCargo celebrated the official launch of a new Munich-Dubai freight connection. Every Sunday an Airbus A310-300 F cargo plane will land at Munich Airport after taking textiles, sporting goods and electronic equipment on board in the desert metropolis of Dubai. The goods will be shipped under the auspices of See-Air Transport (S.A.T.), the world's largest provider of combined sea and air cargo transportation. On the return flight the plane will be carrying goods produced by German businesses.

By providing additional freight capacity at the Munich hub, Emirates is facilitating a much faster exchange of goods between southern German and the Asian economic regions. In the past, most goods were carried as co-loaded freight on Emirates' two daily scheduled flights to Dubai. However, as a result of heavy demand, freight forwarders have been sending some of their cargo to other airports by truck.
