Aiming to improve the energy efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of its refrigerated container fleet, Evergreen Line has purchased 2,000 PrimeLINE' refrigeration units from Carrier Transicold. Carrier Transicold is a unit of Carrier Corp., the world's leader in high technology heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration solutions, improving the world around us through engineered innovation and environmental stewardship. Carrier Corp. is a business unit of United Technologies Corp.
Following analysis and competitive comparisons, Evergreen Line, one of the world's largest container shipping companies, made this initial purchase of PrimeLINE units based on anticipated power savings and reduced carbon emissions, coupled with best-in-class pull-down and cooling capacity for high-respiration perishables.

The PrimeLINE unit has the highest deep-frozen capacity of any unit using R-134a, the non-ozone depleting refrigerant with the lowest global warming potential of all contemporary container refrigerants.

'The PrimeLINE unit was designed especially with shipping lines such as Evergreen in mind to provide the most sustainable solutions for their operations,' said Chiou Fun Sin, Carrier vice president, Global Container Refrigeration. 'As the industry's most energy efficient container refrigeration unit, the high-performance PrimeLINE, featuring digital scroll technology, helps Evergreen Line improve lifecycle costs while reducing the environmental impact of its refrigerated containers.'

''Evergreen Line's PrimeLINE units are expected to save enough energy over their operating life to eliminate nearly 44,000 tons of carbon emissions, relative to the industry average,' said John Mandyck, Carrier's vice president for Sustainability and Environmental Strategies. 'That's equivalent to removing more than 650 cars from the road over the same period.'

The ability of the PrimeLINE units to reduce carbon emissions and energy costs was especially important in consideration of Evergreen Line's plans to expand its refrigerated service in the year ahead.

The new 40-foot containers equipped with PrimeLINE units will replace some of the oldest units in Evergreen's 55,000-TEU capacity refrigerated fleet and will complement Evergreen's fleet of Carrier EliteLINE' units, which share some commonalities with the PrimeLINE units, providing operation and maintenance synergies for Evergreen Line.

'For decades, Carrier has been incorporating sustainability into its products and operations. PrimeLINE is a key offering in our portfolio of sustainable solutions that provides the marketplace with opportunities to increase quality while lowering carbon emissions,' said Mandyck.
