Florida maritime leaders meet at Port Everglades

Florida’s maritime leaders, including representatives from cruise lines, cargo shipping and handling companies, labor, legislative and governmental entities, and the state’s 14 deepwater seaports met today at Broward County’s Port Everglades and agreed to explore forming a united coalition. The coalition’s purpose would be to offer leadership and advocate issues affecting commerce, international trade and security.

Approximately 45 industry and governmental leaders from across the state participated in the discussion, which focused on crucial issues that are impacting Florida’s $73.4 billion industry.

“We established a consensus that the entire maritime industry will find a way to work together on the important issues,” said Port Everglades Director Phillip C. Allen. “I look forward to being part of this joint effort to prepare for next year’s legislative session.”
