Forward Air Corp's second-quarter profit beat market estimates, driven by growth at its core airport-to-airport air cargo business.

For the third quarter, the company expects earnings of 38-42 cents a share on revenue growth of 6-10 percent.

Analysts were expecting earnings of 40 cents a share on revenue of $138.6 million, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.

For the quarter ended June 30, the company reported net income of $12 million, or 40 cents a share, compared with $7.9 million, or 27 cents a share, a year ago.

Operating revenue rose 8 percent to $132.2 million.

Airport-to-airport operating revenue, which accounts for 69 percent of total revenue, rose 12 percent. (Reuters)
