Glasgow Prestwick Airport Freight has just handled an unusual heavy lift for engineering and crane specialist Sparrows - a 120ft, 55-tonne monster crane bound for Abu Dhabi.

It was transported by another heavyweight - an Antonov 124, the world's largest cargo aircraft and a frequent visitor to the airport.

Needed urgently by one of Sparrows' clients, the crane was sent out to Abu Dhabi where it will be installed on a drilling rig after undergoing refurbishment. Sparrows are global leaders in oilfield engineering expertise and lifting services with headquarters based in Aberdeen.

Glasgow Prestwick CEO Iain Cochrane said: 'Once again this demonstrates Glasgow Prestwick's exceptional expertise and commitment to fast turnaround of large and complex freight loads."

Sparrows' Corporate Communications Manager Michelle Wainwright said: 'We are very grateful indeed to everyone at Prestwick Airport who enabled us to react so quickly and efficiently to our client's needs.'
