Existing business expands as two new services come on-line

Less than 60 days after announcing a new Eastern-Mediterranean service to the Port of Savannah, Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) Executive Director Doug J. Marchand announced the signing of a formal agreement between CSAV Line and the GPA.

May was an exceptionally strong month for the GPA with solid increases in container tonnage, bulk activity, intermodal traffic and breakbulk tonnage. Total tonnage for the month, which set a new record for the Authority, was 1,666,665, a 13.5% increase from the previous year.

“GPA is growing its existing business, while adding additional services,” said Marchand. “The addition of CSAV’s ‘USATLAN Service’ will further enhance Latin American-US East Coast options, while creating additional opportunities for Georgia’s business community to broaden its share of markets in Argentina, Brazil and Venezuela.”

The first CSAV vessel to call on the Port of Savannah, the Libre Salvadore, arrived at Garden City in late June. Just last month, the GPA welcomed Turkon Line to Savannah further enhancing Mediterranean-US East Coast service options.

“CSAV Line is recognized globally as among the best in ocean carrier transport,” Marchand added
