New Breed Logistics, Inc., based in High Point, North Carolina, announced today that it has signed a five-year contract with Hallmark Cards, Inc., to operate two new retail distribution centers located in Clayton, North Carolina and St. Joseph, Missouri. New Breed was selected to implement a world-class operation, enhance performance, reduce costs, and provide operational flexibility.

Under this contract, New Breed will provide warehousing and distribution services, which include receiving, put-away, inventory control, picking, packing, and same-day shipping to Hallmark’s network of stores and mass retailers. Products include greeting cards, gifts, party goods, dealer service kits, and promotional items. The Clayton, NC and St. Joseph, MO facilities total 800,000 square feet and will employ more than 200 people during peak season.

Hallmark spent more than a year conducting an in-depth analysis of several third party logistics providers before selecting New Breed. ‘The selection of New Breed as a strategic partner for this critical component of Hallmark’s supply chain exemplifies our ability to meet the demanding requirements of the consumer products and retail distribution industry,’ said Joe Hauck, New Breed’s director of business development. ‘We are proud to add yet another marquee brand to our list of clients.’

Hallmark sought to supplement its own distribution facilities by partnering with a world-class third party logistics provider to enhance logistics efficiencies, maintain a high level of customer service, control operating costs, and provide a flexible platform for growth. ‘We have been impressed with the New Breed organization and their service capabilities,’ said Pete Burney, Hallmark operations vice president - logistics solutions. ‘New Breed presented us with a strong solution for these new sites ’ complementing our existing operations and providing added flexibility to Hallmark’s overall supply chain.’
