Horizon Lines, Inc. the nation's leading domestic ocean shipping company, has been awarded the 2010 Platinum Carrier Award by home improvement retailer Lowe's Companies Inc. Horizon was the only Jones Act ocean carrier so honored.

Lowe's presented the Platinum Carrier Award, the highest Lowe's honor an ocean carrier can receive, to Horizon Lines for achieving exemplary on-time service and reliability. It is the fifth consecutive Platinum Carrier Award, and the 10th consecutive year in which Horizon Lines has been honored by Lowe's. Randolph Page, Horizon's Southeast Sales Manager, and Toni Sikes, Business Development Sales Representative, accepted the award from Steve Palmer, Vice President of Transportation for Lowe's, and Mark Ramsey, Lowe's LTL Transportation Manager.

"Horizon's strong internal team in operations, customer service, logistics, intermodal and pricing all play significant roles in our collaborative approach to serving customers," said Brian Taylor, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. "We are 100% committed to working with Lowe's to develop initiatives that improve their new-store and existing-store inventory supply chains. This reminder of how we continue to achieve the highest recognition from our customers is particularly rewarding for Randolph Page, his team and the entire company."

Horizon Lines has received the Platinum Carrier Award for years 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009, prior to this most recent award. Each year since 2001, Horizon Lines has earned Lowe's Outstanding Ocean Service Provider Award or the Platinum Carrier Award for consistently providing superior service in the U.S. domestic ocean trades to Alaska and Hawaii.
