JAXPORT and its partners unloaded two unusually large pieces of equipment weighing a combined 300 tons from a ship onto a specially designed truck this morning at the Talleyrand Marine Terminal. The cargo originated in Sweden and arrived in Jacksonville following more than 17 days at sea.

The movement of the 138-ton power plant generator and 120-ton turbine was accomplished by JAXPORT’s Seaonus Stevedoring and Spliethoff Worldwide Ocean Transport. The two massive pieces of cargo were accompanied by 23 smaller pieces and the off-loading operation took more than four hours.

McTyre Trucking will transport each piece separately on a unique 36-axle, 300-foot trailer---one of only six of its kind in the nation---specifically designed to handle such heavy lift cargo. The components are headed to Gainesville Renewable Energy, a bio-mass energy facility in Gainesville, Florida.
