Kubler Spedition of Germany, a member of the Cargo Equipment Expert CEE network for equipment owners, won the contract to transport the largest friction winch ever been constructed in Haiger, Germany. The winch can simultaneously work with 6 ropes, each 30tons at a working depth down to 2000m. The winch is supposed to work at several plants for the Impala mining company in South Africa. The machine, which weighs 150 tons, left the Haiger based manufacturer site and completed its journey to South Africa.


Kuebler Speditions target was to transport the complete machine.

The equipment Kuebler used:

  • 700HP ACTROs, 15 Scheuerle-Axles. Additional Tractor on sensitive places to support
  • 500to mobile-crane and Riverbarge for pre-transportation to Antwerp
  • MACS Red Cedar, 2 x 100to geared multipurpose oceanvessel
  • NICOLAS Tractors 2 x 1000 HP, 13axles Goldhofer-Trailer

The heavy-duty transportation of the special winch in question began in Haiger, with the shipment travelling by road to Andernach, Germany. In Andernach, the winch was transferred onto a barge and taken to Antwerp in Belgium, where it began its journey to South Africa onboard a heavy-lift cargo ship. From the Port of Richards Bay the subcontractor of Kuebler Spedition arranged for transport and loading onto foundation to jobsite about 1050 km distance from the entry port.
