Konecranes has been awarded the “Red Dot Award: Product Design 2014” for the design quality of its Agilon material management solution. The “Red Dot Award” is an international design award created by Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Germany. The “Red Dot Award” has established itself worldwide as one of the most sought-after quality marks for excellent design. “We are very proud to have received the Red Dot design award for Agilon,” says Johannes Tarkiainen, Industrial Design Manager at Konecranes. “In addition to modern and harmonic outlook, Agilon’s user experience is impressive – the user can feel the results of creative and multidisciplinary design work.” The patented Agilon materials inventory and management system is an example of smart material handling and at the same time shows the result of successful design. It consists of a net portal, a shelving system, and a robot that travels within the shelving. It picks the parts listed by the operator and brings them straight to the service point. A clear user interface shows the availability of parts and displays a picture of the part needed. Agilon can be used for storing hundreds or even thousands of different components, and it allows real-time information on the components to be shared via the portal with various parties in the supply chain. In 2013, Konecranes received the “Red Dot Award: Product Design 2013” for its multibranded electric chain hoist series. The red dot design award dates back to 1955. This year 4,815 entries from 53 countries participated in the competition. Only the best products were bestowed with the sought-after award for design excellence.
