In April 2009, Konecranes received an order for 90 heavy industrial cranes from steel company Marcegaglia (China) Co., Ltd. in Yangzhou, China. The cranes will be installed and used in Marcegaglia (China) Co., Ltd.’s new pipe manufacturing factory under construction. The first cranes will be delivered in September 2009 and the last in July 2010. The parties have agreed not to disclose the value of the order.

Marcegaglia (China) Co., Ltd. is part of the Italian-owned industrial and financial company Marcegaglia, a world-leading corporation in the steel transformation industry. The pipe factory under construction in Yangzhou is planned to produce 350,000 ton per year of steel pipes for the Chinese hydraulic cylinder and automotive industry.

“Konecranes received this order thanks to the technical features of the cranes: advanced control systems and a compact design, which offer big savings in building construction costs,” says Eric Chen, Director, Process Cranes, Konecranes (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.

Twelve of the cranes ordered are SM cranes with a 48-ton lifting capacity and will be used for coil handling. The other 78 cranes are CXT cranes with a 16-ton lifting capacity and will be used for pipe handling.
