Lufthansa Cargo significantly increased the volume of freight and mail transported in the first quarter of 2011. The Company continued on the strong growth path of the previous year. Cargo volumes were up overall by 19.9 per cent on the year-earlier level.

Lufthansa Cargo raised capacity substantially in the first three months of the year. The
reactivation of freighters, parked temporarily in the crisis, expansion of the AeroLogic fleet to a total of eight aircraft and the marketing of the freight capacities of Austrian Airlines boosted
capacity by 22.8 per cent. Almost all the increased capacity was sold so that the cargo load
factor ended the quarter at a high 69.9 per cent.
'Lufthansa Cargo is excellently positioned in the world's growth markets,' noted the Chairman and CEO of the cargo carrier, Karl Ulrich Garnadt. 'Thanks to our flexible network management and a strong sales performance, we achieved two-digit growth rates in all markets.' The positive development of German export business also lifted Lufthansa Cargo's traffic figures in the home market, the Chairman emphasised.
